please Preserve Our Nature Holi Make it Green Make it Safe
Please keep our Holi "Green and Safe"
Please do not cut trees and also minimize the use of wood for “Holika Dahan”
We do not intend to hurt anyone’s feeling through this message, our sentiments are fully with the people who believe and follow this religious festival. Holi is a very important and age-old festival, there is absolutely no reason for not celebrating it with full vigor. One of the most important aspects of Holi is Holika Dahan, a ritual where a bonfire is lit to celebrate the victory of good over evil. There is no denying that a significant amount of trees are sacrificed as wood for this ritual. The consequent loss to our nature and ourselves is immense, and we believe it is impossible to keep going this way. With all due respect to our beliefs, we must find an alternate way to celebrate so that we can minimize this harm to our environment by reducing the millions of tonnes of wood used to make the bonfire. Here are some of suggestions:
Use branches that have already broken off and fallen to the ground or use the wood from already deceased trees
Make your Holi bonfire small to minimize use of wood
Create a single Holi celebration for a town or a village, also making this an excellent opportunity for people to gather and celebrate together
Aim to stop competition between the groups and societies to have one’s own Holi or to have the biggest Holi
Find an alternative way to perform puja (the act of worship), a very good example of this has been during recent Diwalis, as people take part in online pujas
It takes years for a sapling to become a tree, and minutes to be killed.
Perhaps the best way to celebrate our Festivals would be saving our trees.
